Flexible Input Options

RhinoMarine is extremely flexible when it comes to performing an analysis. No matter the condition that you need to analyze, RhinoMarine makes it easy to set up and run the calculations.

The flotation of the vessel can be defined in two basic manners:

  • Define one or more waterplanes, and determine the displacement and center of buoyancy; or
  • Define the displacement and center of gravity, and determine the waterplane.

Waterplanes can be defined in a number of fashions:

  • Enter a single waterplane height or a list of heights;
  • Enter a range of waterplanes, by defining the minimum and maximum heights, and the number of waterplanes;
  • Enter the minimum waterplane height, an increment, and the number of waterplanes;
  • Enter a list of one or more waterplane heights and a trim angle.

Using the displacement/CG approach, RhinoMarine gives two options to define the condition of the vessel:

  • Enter displacement and the longitudinal, transverse, and vertical location of the center of gravity; or
  • Enter the displacement, transverse and vertical center of gravity, and a trim angle.

With any of these approaches to defining the flotation plane, you may specify a range of heel angles and RhinoMarine will compute stability information as well.

Want an easy way to keep track of the total displacement? RhinoMarine includes a spreadsheet-like Weight Editor, allowing you to keep a list of the weight items in your design. Simply enter each item that you want to track separately, together with its weight and center of gravity, and let RhinoMarine compute the total displacement and center of gravity. The Weight Editor makes it especially easy to run different conditions to see the effect of adding or removing items, or moving them to a different location on the vessel. The total values from the Weight Editor are automatically entered into the Displacement, LCG, TCG, and VCG fields in the Flotation Plane Definition.
