Design & Analysis Tools for the Marine Industry by Proteus Engineering

RhinoMarine is the combination of Rhino and a specialized marine plug-in. It may be purchased as a bundle including Rhino, or the plug-in may be purchased separately if you already own a copy of Rhino.

If you do not currently own Rhino, please start by downloading the latest Rhino, then return here to continue.

Once Rhino is installed, you may download and install the RhinoMarine plug-in. Before installing RhinoMarine, please be sure that:

RhinoMarine Licensing Overview

RhinoMarine is secured to your computer using a utility called "Crypkey". The license for RhinoMarine is specific to the computer and directory it is installed in. If you move the program, even to another directory, you also need to transfer the license. See Transferring Licenses in the RhinoMarine Help guide for information.

Licensing RhinoMarine on your computer is a straightforward, one-time process:

  1. Install the software on your computer, after you have installed Rhino.
  2. Start Rhino, and when the Licensing dialog appears, find your Site Code by clicking on "Activate/Modify License on Local Computer". Your Site Code will be displayed.
  3. Send your Site Code to your RhinoMarine reseller. The best way to do this is to copy and paste it into an email. You will then receive a Site Key from the reseller, or directly from Proteus Engineering. While you are waiting for the Site Key, you can close the Activate/Modify License dialog, and select "Activate Later" in the Licensing dialog. If you have not yet purchased the software, please see Purchasing.
  4. When you have received your Site Key, click on "Activate/Modify License on Local Computer", and enter the Site Key into the appropriate field. Click on "Register Site Key." You will see a dialog that confirms successful registration.

Important Note: The Site Key is unique to your computer, and is a one-time-use-only key. You do not need to keep a record of it, as you will not be able to use it on this or another computer again. If you would like to move your license of RhinoMarine to another computer, or you need to reformat your hard disk or install a new hard disk, please read the Transferring Licenses section in the RhinoMarine Help guide for important information.

The following is a list of commands available in the License dialog box.

Note on Network Installations:
RhinoMarine may be licensed to a particular computer, or may have a floating network license. For example, if you have four Rhino users in your network, but do not expect more than two to be using RhinoMarine at the same time, you may purchase a 2-user network license. Any two of the four Rhino users could then use RhinoMarine simultaneously. The installation of the Network License consists of two steps; installing  and licensing RhinoMarine with the Network License on the License Server computer (a computer that is always accessible to those that will be using RhinoMarine, but not necessarily the "server" in your network), and installing and licensing RhinoMarine on each of the other computers in the network that will be using RhinoMarine (client computers). For the installation on the server, follow the instructions for Standalone Installations, then click here for information on licensing each of the client computers.

Activating/Registering RhinoMarine

Once you have placed your order and received your Site Key, you are ready to activate/register your copy of RhinoMarine:

  1. Open the RhinoMarine Licensing dialog by selecting License from the RhinoMarine menu.
  2. Click on the Activate New License on Local Computer button to open the Activate/Modify License dialog.
  3. Enter your Site Key, and click on Register Site Key.
  4. You will see a message confirming that the program was properly registered, and then click Continue to return to the Licensing dialog.
  5. You will see a status icon. If you are registered for unlimited use, the icon will be green. If you have a limited license (e.g. number of days, number of runs), the icon will be yellow. If your license is expired, the icon will be red.
  6. Click on Continue.
  7. If your license is unlimited, the next time that you start RhinoMarine you will not see this dialog.

If for some reason you expected to have an unlimited license (green), but did not, check that you entered the Site Key properly. Also, confirm that you supplied the correct Site Code on your order form. The Site Key can only be used on the computer that originally was used to generate the Site Code that you supplied on your order form, and is only good to register your license once. If you need to move the license to another computer, or you need to replace or reformat your hard disk, please see the Transferring Licenses section in the RhinoMarine Help guide.

Note: If you get the following error, it is either because you uninstalled a previous version of RhinoMarine and then did not restart your computer before installing this version, or because you do not have "Full Control" permissions on the RhinoMarine installation directory. Please contact your system administrator, and have the security attributes of the RhinoMarine installation directory modified to allow you (and other users) to have "Full Control" (this can be set for all users by allowing Full Control for the Users group).

If RhinoMarine has not been licensed after 15 days, it will stop working, and the message shown here below will be displayed.

If you have already sent us your Site CODE, you will be able to complete the licensing procedure when you receive the Site KEY. In the meantime, Rhino will continue to run normally, but you will not be able to run the RhinoMarine commands.

If you do not wish to purchase RhinoMarine, uninstall it from Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.

Remember: after the 15 day trial demo period has expired, RhinoMarine will not run unlicensed again, but of course it can be licensed at any time.
